Tax Associate, Data Input & Preparation- Seasonal Position
Balanced Tax Solutions is a tax preparation and business services office in Clinton, Washington on Whidbey Island. We are a small, dynamic team, and we work closely with our clients to make sure their tax and business services are professional, ethical, and genuinely best serve our client’s needs. We understand that business services and tax preparation are built on mutual trust, and we work hard to create relationships with our clients as peers and neighbors.
We are seeking a committed Tax Associate to support our growing portfolio of clients. Successful candidates will ensure client confidentiality, understand current legislation and regulations, provide excellent service, and maintain the high standard set by Balanced Tax Solutions. Ultimately, a top Tax Associate will be detail-oriented with a committed career path to becoming an Enrolled Agent.
Tasks & Duties:
Initial tax return information input & preparation, so that the return is ready to move on to the taxpayer appointment with an Enrolled Agent.
· Maintain flow of tax information and working folders, both physical and digital files.
· Update status and client information in CRM.
· Input tax information into tax program with accuracy, double checking work.
· Notate/”Flag” in tax program any questions or missing information.
· Check in weekly with Tasks assigned and complete in one week, with the ability to explain and strategize with the EA for non-completion of tasks.
· Follow through with questions for review and notes in tax software for the taxpayer appointment.
The Tax Associate reports directly to President / Enrolled Tax Agent. This includes:
· Daily check-ins with EA for work flow and training questions.
· Quick research in Tax Book or agency resources for tax instructions and answers (this is an on-going, necessary skill for all tax preparers).
· Tax appointment & consultation mentorship; Tax Associate may sit in on appointments to experience completion of returns.
Responsibilities:
· CONFIDENTIALITY - agreement to not share any client information outside of office.
· SECURITY - all security protocols, including cyber security, must be followed daily to protect client information.
· Be alert and responsive to client needs and personal notes, while making notes for EA to review.
· Strive to learn continuously while engaging in daily tasks, and be unafraid to admit something you do not know or did wrong, so that correct action can be taken. We all learn from each other.
· Be persistent and clear with details, while maintaining professionalism and thoroughness.
· Time management - prioritize daily tasks by level of importance, flow with others, and time of the year considering deadlines and calendar.
o The maximum turnaround time for tax return input is one week from the date of receipt.
· Team player and good communicator with staff and clientele.
Schedule & Compensation
· This is a seasonal*, full time position with an average of 35 hours per week, depending on filing deadlines and flow, with more hours around tax filing deadlines.
· Employee status, starting at $25/hour
· Do your own return for free
· Bring in a new client, $100 referral fee
· This job is best fulfilled with an office presence, generally between 10 am and 5 pm. Working remotely is welcome and encouraged if it supports meeting the accountabilities and responsibilities of the work. Office space is available in Clinton, WA.
· Continuation of job on a part-time basis may be considered at the end of tax season.
