Meet Kirstin.

Owner of Balanced Tax Solutions, Inc. 20+ years of experience. Calm, respectful, insightful, solutions-focused.

Kirstin B. Smith is an Enrolled Agent, certified to prepare tax returns and engage in services dealing with the IRS and state tax agencies nationwide.

She graduated from UCLA with a BA in Sociology and has been an Enrolled Agent and preparing tax returns since 2011. She specializes in assisting small business owners navigate the best strategies for their business as: sole proprietors, partnerships, and s-corporations.

Kirstin works with a talented, trustworthy team of office staff and reporting agents to assist you with all of your needs.

Meet Jenna.

Office Manager of Balanced Tax Solutions, Inc. Witty, organized, and a master communicator.

Jenna Ruggenberg is the Office Manager at Balanced Tax Solutions and oversees our operations & administrative structure and strategy. Jenna is a grizzled old veteran of operations work and has directed administration everywhere from Whidbey Island nonprofits to Seattle circus schools. She deeply values BTS’ commitment to our community and thinks our clients are the best.

When Jenna is not working, you can find her writing unlikely stories, walking Whidbey’s many gorgeous trails, and staring at birds. She will gladly fly on a trapeze for a good cause.

  • Rachel Enter-Guzman

    BOOKKEEPER

    Rachel Enter-Guzman brings over 11 years of extensive bookkeeping expertise, serving a diverse portfolio of businesses across numerous industries. Her proven track record encompasses comprehensive accounting and bookkeeping services, supporting approximately 100 clients with areas such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll management, and state tax compliance. Rachel holds an MBA and has pursued advanced studies in Organizational Leadership at the doctoral level.

    A Whidbey Island resident since 2012, Rachel balances her professional life with active participation in her children's activities. You can often find her cheering on her daughter at dance competitions or supporting her son at track meets. When she has a moment to herself, she enjoys the company of her goats and other animals on her charming small farm.

  • Christina Robinson

    PAYROLL SPECIALIST

    Christina holds a BS in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Administration from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. She has lived on Whidbey Island since 2021 and spends her free time on a hobby farm raising waterfowl. Her life goal is to continue learning new things and growing every day.

  • Matt Todd

    BOOKKEEPING MANAGER

    Matt Todd holds a Master of Accountancy and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Western Carolina University.

    He has worked at every level of financial management, from teaching the basics of accounting to solopreneurs to Controller and CFO at for- and non-profit firms alike.

    Matt is enthusiastic about our Whidbey community and enjoys spending time with family in all the wild places of Whidbey Island.

  • Monique Karlov

    ENROLLED AGENT

    Monique earned her BS degree from UC Davis and worked for 10 years as a researcher in the pharmaceutical industry before leaving to raise her children.

    She has been a tax preparer since 2010 and an Enrolled Agent since 2012. She works with many clients with both long term and short term rental properties; as well as many small, often home-based businesses. She has specialized in employee stock purchase plans (ESPP) and other stock plans. She enjoys meeting with clients and learning about their unique situations.

    When not at work, Monique is an enthusiastic gardener and home crafter of custom bags, toys and textiles.
